PHENOMENAL A LEVEL ACHIEVEMENTS AGAIN
One of the largest and most successful sixth forms in the South West, Midsomer Norton Sixth Form students were today celebrating another set of sensational results, achieving well above the national average. The school was filled with excited students this morning as they revelled in the aftermath of months of dedication and exceptionally hard work which will allow them to embark on high quality apprenticeships, new careers and places at top universities across the country. 35% of our students achieved A* - A and 65% achieved A* - B. To top these record breaking achievements, 90% achieved A* - C and 100% of our students passed. All these measures are significantly above national averages.
Students continued to be ambitious this year with their future plans. This year, at 35%, a consistently high number of students will attend a Russell Group University compared with the 9% average for the South West. This achievement has been assisted by the Sixth Form’s specialist Russell Group University Preparation Programme. Among the wealth of this year’s outstanding results, there are a few particularly notable accomplishments: Milly Cohen achieved four A*s and will be studying Maths at Jesus College, University of Oxford; Dora Hosie achieved three A*s and one A and will be studying Art History at St Katharine’s College, University of Oxford; Jordan Shemilt achieved two A*s and two As and will study Mathematics at Warwick University; Daisy Thompson achieved one A* and two As and will be studying Political Science at Birmingham University; Madeleine Summers achieved a D1 (A*+) two A*s and one A and will be studying Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry at Warwick University; Emma Kitsell achieved three A*s and one A, and will be studying Comparative Literature at UCL, London; Josh McHale achieved one A* two As and two Bs and has secured a Sports Scholarship to study at Cardinal Stritch University, Wisconsin. These are only a few examples of the incredible results achieved this year by our hard working students. Students have also gone on to prestigious apprenticeship providers such as BAE Systems, Rolls Royce and Wessex Water.
Senior Assistant Headteacher – Post 16, Karen Ward said “We wish our students all the best for the bright futures they have ahead of them as they begin the next chapter in their lives. With the growing job market, exciting apprenticeships and leading universities, we are confident that our students’ diligence and dedication will ensure their success in whichever path they choose to take. The students’ ambitious destinations reflect the success of the Russell Group and the Direct into Work programmes we have to offer; all of which provide highly individualised support.”
Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership CEO Alun Williams said “I am delighted by the achievements of Year 13 students this year. They have done exceptionally well and exceeded all national averages.
